About Captain Brian

One of my earliest memories growing up in Athens, GA was my grandfather asking me if I wanted to go to Mr. Breedlove’s pond to “catch us a mess of fish.” My grandmother hollered out the back door, “Pete, you better make sure he wears a life jacket!” We walked out to his shop to gather our gear: a couple of old Zebco reels, a 5-gallon bucket, and a pack of half-dried-out hotdogs. He begrudgingly grabbed his life jacket and patted the dust off. We threw it all in the bed of his red 80’s model S-10 pickup, and off we went. When we got to the pond, we grabbed our reels, the bucket, and the pack of hot dogs and walked out to the dock.

I don’t think he had any intention of making me wear that life jacket. Knowing him, he probably figured that if I fell in, I’d learn to swim pretty quickly. Even though we mostly caught bream and snapping turtles, this experience sparked a passion for the great outdoors and the fish that swim in its waters. The most rewarding trip I have ever done was taking him out fishing one last time before he passed. The “mess” of fish we caught this time fought a little harder than those bluegills, but you could tell he couldn’t wait to get them home and into a frying pan next to some hushpuppies.

I have traveled all over the country chasing critters that run across land and swim underwater. However, my greatest catch is my beautiful wife and the three daughters the good Lord blessed me with. I have slowed down my traveling expeditions to spend more time at home, just a few minutes away from Percy Priest Lake. I have channeled my passion for fishing into catching the most exciting fish Middle Tennessee has to offer – hybrid and striped bass! Nothing excites me more than that aggressive bite and a bent-over pole as someone reels in one of these fighters for the first time.
